Book Distribution #1: Salio Village

A year ago a seed was planted.  A desire to help teachers improve the literacy of kids in remote villages out here in Raja Ampat.   A will to share books with kids who have none.  A wish to open new doors for village locals who may not have known such doors existed...

The seed was planted but it stayed in the dark for some time, slowly turning over before it quietly began to unfurl and show itself to the world.

This project has been a slow becoming.  Teeny, tiny, baby steps, uncertain at first, then more confident, now up and running.

And finally, after much support (thank you all) and anticipation, we have had our first book distribution.

What a powerful and overwhelming day.  It's difficult to describe what it felt like to hand over those books and watch the children become immersed in them.  It's difficult to put into words.

Suffice to say I almost cried.

So did the teacher.

And I'm very much looking forward to returning next week with another load of books!

Thank you all so much!
