This is Selpele Village. A small, remote village in West Waigeo, Raja Ampat.
Selpele is a fishing village. They catch fish and grow vegetables to eat and to trade. There is no phone, no internet, and minimal generated electricity on the island.
When I visited Selpele village last year the school was closed. There were no teachers on the island, and therefor no classes for the students.
Like all remote villages here in the Raja Ampat Archipelago, resources on the island are limited.
But, thanks to your help, we will be able to make a small difference to the people of Selpele Village by providing them with books!
How Can You Help?
1) Get your class/school/club/community together to collect #100BOOKS! These can be donated pre-loved from your own book shelf, or purchased new. Can't quite make 100? No problem, even a handful of books will be appreciated.
What kind of books should you collect? We primarily need books in Indonesian for Primary and Middle School students. English books for second language learners or picture story books in either Indonesian or English will also be appreciated.
2) Arrange pick up or drop off of books. I make regular trips to Bali to collect and shop for books. Want me to pay a visit to your school or club to talk more about island life and the village schools and the project? Too easy!
